CyberM8, a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing cybersecurity across South Africa, has formalised a strategic partnership with The Innovation Hub Management Company (TIHMC). The two entities recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at fostering innovation, enterprise development, and cybersecurity awareness within the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. This collaboration is expected to play a significant role in supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs) and advancing the country’s cybersecurity capabilities.
The MOU outlines a shared commitment between CyberM8 and TIHMC to work together on several key initiatives. A major focus will be on co-fundraising efforts to support the annual Cybersecurity Indaba, a flagship event that brings together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to address critical cybersecurity issues. Additionally, the agreement includes a programme to incubate five ICT SMMEs over a three-year period at The Innovation Hub, providing them with the necessary resources and mentorship to scale their businesses.
The partnership also calls for the establishment of a multi-stakeholder advisory board, which will guide CyberM8’s programmes and help align them with industry needs and emerging trends.
Thabang Phala, the Chief Executive Officer of CyberM8, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership and the value it will bring to the cybersecurity landscape in South Africa:
“This collaboration is an exciting milestone for both CyberM8 and the ICT community. Partnering with The Innovation Hub allows us to tap into their extensive experience in business incubation and technological innovation, which will enhance our efforts to address the growing need for cybersecurity skills and awareness across the country. By working together, we can strengthen our initiatives and ensure that SMMEs in the ICT sector are well-equipped to thrive in a digital economy.”
Phala went on to highlight the strategic importance of supporting SMMEs:
“Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of our economy. Through this partnership, we are not only helping these businesses grow, but we are also contributing to the broader goal of building a safer and more secure digital environment for all South Africans. The incubation programme at The Innovation Hub will provide the necessary support to these ICT enterprises, positioning them for long-term success.”
The MOU between CyberM8 and TIHMC reflects a joint vision to enhance South Africa’s digital economy by addressing the critical need for innovation in cybersecurity. This partnership will play a pivotal role in advancing the country’s technological competitiveness while fostering the development of local talent and businesses.
